Himmelberger Nabs Academic All-District Accolades

It was announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) that UC Davis distance runner Scott Himmelberger has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 8 second team for cross country and track and field. It is the first all-district honor for Himmelberger, who has also earned Big West Conference All-Academic the past two years.

Eligible student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or better and have participated as a starter or key reserve for their team. In addition, All-District honorees must have competed in at least 50 percent of the team's contests and have completed at least one academic year at their institution.

Women's Cross Country Honored As USTFCCCA All-Academic

It was announced Friday by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) that the UC Davis women's cross country team has been named a 2008 All-Academic Team. It marks the second consecutive season that the Aggies have been honored with the accolade.

For a team to be eligible for the distinction, they must have a cumulative team GPA of at least 3.0 and have complied a team score at an NCAA regional. UC Davis met the standards with a 3.18 GPA and a program-best finish of sixth at the West Regional in Palo Alto last November.

Conley, Gregg Finish 2008 Season At NCAA Championships

UC Davis seniors Kim Conley and Kaitlin Gregg earned 80th- and 118-place finishes, respectively, in the women's six-kilometer race at the 2008 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships Monday morning at the Vern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.

"The opportunity to run at a National Championship event proved to be a valuable experience," said Aggie head coach Drew Wartenburg. "Both Kim and Kaitlin finished their cross country careers at the highest possible level. Our next task is to continue building toward the goal of bringing a full men's and women's team to this meet in the future."
