Faletoese To Play In East-West Shrine Game
Standout defensive tackle John Faletoese has been invited to play in the 84th East-West Shrine Game on Jan. 17 at the University of Houston, becoming the eighth UC Davis football player to play in the prestigious all-star game and the first since 2005.
Faletoese, a 6-foot-3, 292-pound senior from Carmichael, has already received several postseason accolades including All-America honors from the Associated Press and the Walter Camp Foundation. He was named the Great West Conference Defensive Player of the Year last month while earning all-conference first-team honors for the third time. | | UC Davis To Play At Fresno State In 2009
UC Davis will face Fresno State in football for the first since 1952 when the Aggies travel to face the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision Bulldogs in 2009, it was announced on Tuesday.
Next season's matchup will be played Sept. 5 at Bulldog Stadium which has a capacity of 41,031. Fresno State has won nearly 80 percent of its games at the stadium, posting an impressive 122-30-2 record since its opening in 1980.
The Bulldogs have won seven straight games in the all-time series against UC Davis and own an 11-5-1 advantage overall. The teams first played in 1922 and faced each other 15 times over the next 17 seasons before taking a break until 1951. Fresno State won the most recent game, 41-7 in 1952. Former UC Davis quarterback and current Boise State head coach Chris Petersen will be reunited with his alma mater next season when the Aggies visit the Broncos in a nonconference football game, it was announced on Friday.
The matchup, to be played Sept. 19 at Bronco Stadium, will be the second Western Athletic Conference opponent for UC Davis next season after facing Fresno State on Sept. 5. The Aggies open this season on Aug. 30 against WAC member San Jose State, an opponent for the second straight year. | |
