Tao, Bobonski Named 2010 Team Captains
Juniors Christine Tao and Michelle Bobonski have been selected as team co-captains for the 2010 UC Davis women's gymnastics season, it was announced by head coach John Lavallee at the team's year-end banquet Sunday. Additionally, four student-athletes were granted "Major Contribution" awards to commemorate their seasons.
Tao, a design major from Maple Valley, Wash., captured a share of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation title as a sophomore in 2008. Bobonski, a communication major from Redondo Beach, Calif., was the MPSF co-champion on vault that year, and has earned All-MPSF honors in the event for the past two seasons. | | Dolinsky, Lavallee Claim Top MPSF Honors
UC Davis senior Andi Dolinsky earned a share of Gymnast of the Year honors while head coach John Lavallee took home Coach of the Year distinction as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation announced its year-end awards on Monday.
Additionally, nine Aggies claimed a total of 13 All-MPSF honors, including juniors Tanya Ho and Kendall McCann with three awards each.
Lavallee has now won Coach of the Year accolades every year in his three seasons at the Aggie helm. This season, his team led the MPSF wire-to-wire in both total average and regional-qualifying score (RQS), while improving on its previous mark for nine straight weeks with the exception of an emergency fill-in appearance at Stanford. | | Seven Gymnastics Earn MPSF All-Academic Honors
Senior Andi Dolinsky and sophomore Ashley Lachman led a group of six UC Davis student-athletes named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic squad for women's gymnastics, it was announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Other honored Aggies are juniors Kendall McCann, Lida Gehlen and Eve Hui; and sophomores Stacey Nicolini and Marcy Miller. UC Davis boasted the most names on the MPSF honor roll: Alaska Anchorage had five scholar-athletes, Seattle Pacific had four and Air Force had two.
Dolinsky, an English major from Grand Terrace; and Lachman, an undeclared sophomore from Walnut Creek, each held 3.65 grade-point averages through the 2009 winter term to lead the Aggie contingent. Dolinsky, a two-time MPSF Gymnast of the Year winner, joins McCann and Gehlen as two-time winners. | |
