Lacrosse Lands Five On Academic All-MPSF Squad
total of five UC Davis student-athletes were selected to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Academic All-Conference squad for women's lacrosse, it was announced by executive director Al Beaird on Monday. Alphabetically, the Aggie honorees are Lauren Boyle, Molly Lapolla, Laura Martin, Rachael Martinez and Kjersten Nordmeyer.
Lapolla is the lone junior among the UC Davis winners. Boyle, Martin, Martinez and Nordmeyer are all sophomores. Boyle had the highest grade-point average among the Aggie honorees, holding a 3.35 in civil engineering.
To be eligible for Academic All-MPSF merit, a student-athlete must have a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA, be a sophomore, junior or senior academically; have completed one full academic year at the member institution prior to the year in which the award is given, and have competed in 50 percent or more of the team's competitions. | | UC Davis Lacrosse Announces 2008-09 Signing Clas
A total of nine prospective student-athletes representing six states signed National Letters of Intent (NLI) during the 2008-09 academic year, committing themselves to UC Davis women's lacrosse, it was announced by head coach Elaine Jones.
Alphabetically, the signing class comprises Tess Alekna of Dover, Mass.; Casey Bowles of Danville, Calif., Molly Carstensen of Littleton, Colo.; Kellie Considine of Wantagh, N.Y., Elizabeth Datino of Littleton, Colo.; Anna Geissbuhler of Worthington, Ohio; Stephanie Guercio of Ronkonkoma, N.Y., Natasha Markham of Coto de Caza, Calif. and Hannah Mirza of Mill Valley, Calif.
Other than Considine, who is a sophomore at Mira Costa College, all prospects are seniors at their respective high schools and are expected to enroll at UC Davis in the fall of 2009. | | UC Davis Upsets Denver In MPSF Quarterfinal
Sophomore midfielder Jacklyn Taylor scored a career-high five goals, including the equalizer and game-winner midway in the second period, to lead fifth-seeded UC Davis to a 16-14 upset over fourth-seeded Denver in the quarterfinal round of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's lacrosse tournament at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium Thursday evening.
The Aggies improve to 6-10 for the season. The Pioneers, ranked as high as No. 19 during the regular season, fall to 10-7 overall.
Taylor, who shot 5-for-7 in recording her first hat trick of the year, hit an eight-meter attempt with 13:27 remaining in the second period to tie the score at 13-13, then converted an assist from Christina Corsa three minutes later to put UC Davis ahead for good. | |
