Men's Soccer Signs Eight During NLI Day

The UC Davis men's soccer team signed eight prospective student-athletes to National Letters of Intent during Wednesday's national signing day, head coach Dwayne Shaffer announced. The prospects, in alphabetical order, are Jacob Barron of La Habra High; Sam Del Gobbo of Terra Linda High; Michael Garrick of Bishop O'Dowd High; Jameil Hall of Franklin High; Taylor Heer of Bellarmine College Prep; Brady Jimison of St. Francis High; Dan Reese of Jesuit; and Pat Reese of Jesuit.

"Overall I think it's an outstanding recruiting class. We definitely filled our needs with this class and I believe this group will add a lot of athleticism, size and speed. This group will set a solid foundation for the future of the program."

Earthquakes Sign Amarikwa To Contract

The San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer have signed former UC Davis men's soccer player Quincy Amarikwa to a contract, the club has announced. Amarikwa became the first Aggie to be drafted in the MLS SuperDraft when the Earthquakes took him in the third round last month.

Amarikwa was signed to the Earthquakes' senior roster, which also makes him the first Aggie to achieve that status. The All-American forward has already begun to make a name for himself at the professional level during the first month of the preseason. Amarikwa's first professional goal was the game-winning strike in a 3-2 victory over the Seattle Sounders (United Soccer Leagues) in San Luis Obispo.

Curtis Earns Two National Weekly Honors

Senior midfielder Dylan Curtis added two more weekly honors to his collection on Tuesday as he was named to the College Soccer News and Soccer America National Team of the Week. Curtis joins teammate Quincy Amarikwa as Aggies who have earned national weekly honors this season.

Curtis, who was named Big West Conference Co-Player of the Week on Monday, led UC Davis to a 2-0 showing at the USD/SDSU Tournament with a game-winning goal and assist. His game-winning goal came on a penalty kick in the 104th minute to give the Aggies a 2-1 win over San Diego on Friday. He assisted Amarikwa's game-winner in Sunday's 2-1 decision over San Diego State. He also assisted Sule Anibaba's goal to record his fourth two-assist game of the season. All three players were named to the all-tournament team.
