Bundros, De Reimer Named CRCA Scholar-Athletes

Angeliki Bundros earned recognition as a National Scholar-Athlete from the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) for the second consecutive year while Brittani De Riemer received honors for the first time, as the outstanding UC Davis rowers were named to the academic squad this week.

Honored student-athletes had cumulative GPA's of at least 3.50 and need to be at least a sophomore athletically.

Bundros is a junior from Gilroy double-majoring in psychology, and neurobiology, physiology and behavior. She was a coxswain for the Aggies this season. De Riemer, a sophomore from La Mesa, is majoring in exercise biology. De Riemer was a member of the varsity eight in 2009, rowing from the stroke seat.

UC Davis' novice eight women's crew overcame Gonzaga over the final 500 meters to claim first place in the petite final at the Pac-10 Championships at Lake Natoma on Sunday afternoon while the varsity eight took fifth in its petite final.

UC Davis' novices crossed the finish line of the 2,000-meter course in 6 minutes, 57.1 seconds, beating Gonzaga by less than a second and third-place Sacramento State by almost two. The Aggies' varsity eight was timed in its petite final in 6:56.8.

Sunday's races brought to a close the 2009 season for UC Davis. The Pac-10 Championships annually bring together the top rowing programs in the West Region. The varsity eight class featured seven teams currently ranked in the top 20.

UC Davis Advances Four Boats To WIRA Finals

Fueled by a win from its second novice eight and second-place showings from its varsity and novice eight crews on Saturday, UC Davis advanced four boats to grand finals on Sunday at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships at Lake Natoma.

The Aggies will also be represented by its second varsity eight boat which was third during its preliminary heat. UC Davis is the defending overall team champion at the 31-team regatta which serves as the program's conference championship competition.

UC Davis' varsity four took fourth in its prelim heat and was the only Aggie crew not to move through to a final.
