Several Aggies Claim All-Big West Softball Honors
UC Davis is well represented on this year's Big West Softball All-Conference Team, which was announced Tuesday afternoon. A total of four Aggies were named to one of the three levels of awards. Alex Holmes received first-team honors as a designated player while Kelly Harman was named Freshman Field Player Of The Year. Harman becomes the first Aggie to claim a major Big West post-season individual award. Honorable mention went out to Jessica Hancock (pitcher), Holmes (pitcher), Harman (shortstop) and Belinda Paine (outfield).
Holmes finished the season with a .275 batting average, including a .429 average over the last eight games. Holmes was second on the team with 19 RBIs and had a total of nine extra-base hits. In the circle, the sophomore led the team and was fourth in the Big West with a 1.83 ERA to go along with 108 strikeouts and three shutouts. She also had 13 complete games and a save. | | UC Davis Splits Doubleheader With CSUN
UC Davis split a Big West Conference softball doubleheader with Cal State Northridge on Friday at La Rue Field. The Aggies defeated the Matadors, 3-2, in 10 innings in the first game before CSUN countered with a 3-1 victory in the second. Alex Holmes went a combined 4-for-6 with two RBIs as well as a win in the circle for UC Davis (22-31, 6-14 Big West). Marissa Araujo also drove in two runs.
CSUN (28-21, 8-12 Big West) broke out on top of the first game with an unearned run in the top of the third before the Aggies quickly responded in the bottom of the inning. Jessica Gonzalez was hit by a pitch to start the frame. After a force out, Belinda Paine reached on a bunt single. A double steal by Julie Stauder and Paine put runners in scoring position for Holmes, who lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to drive in Stauder with the tying run. | | Aggies Say So Long To Seniors
The UC Davis softball team closed out its season Saturday in a 5-2 defeat at the hands of Cal State Northridge at La Rue Field. The afternoon also featured Senior Day as Jessica Hancock, Belinda Paine and Julie Stauder were all honored following the game. On the field, the Matadors scored all five of their runs in the first three innings and fought off a seventh-inning threat by the Aggies. | |
