Aggies' Schuler Receives District Academic Honor
Randi Schuler, a senior on the UC Davis women's tennis team, has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First Team. Schuler recently concluded her tennis career for the Aggies and was one of 10 student-athletes in the district to be named to the women's at-large first team.
Schuler played her final two collegiate seasons for the Aggies and played every match at the No. 1 position. The English major was a 2009 Big West Conference Scholar Athlete. As a junior, she was an All-Big West first-team selection. Schuler led the Aggies the past two years with 28 wins at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. | | Dahra Zamudio Receives Big West Honor
The Big West Conference announced its women's tennis post-season honors on Tuesday, and UC Davis freshman Dahra Zamudio has received second-team singles recognition. The Aggie was one of just five freshmen to be named to either the first team or second team.
Zamudio completed a stellar inaugural UC Davis campaign in which she posted a 14-8 record in singles and a 12-13 mark in doubles. She went 13-7 in dual singles with the majority of her wins coming at either No. 2 or No. 3. Zamudio won six of her seven matches at No. 2 while going 5-4 at No. 3. She also went 1-1 at both No. 1 and No. 4. Zamudio closed the season with nine wins in her final 12 matches. | | UC Davis Heads To Big West Tournament
The UC Davis women's tennis team is gearing up for this week's Big West Tournament. The Aggies are the No. 7 seed at this year's championship and will face No. 2 UC Irvine Friday at 9:00 a.m. The tournament is taking place at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif.
All nine Big West teams will take part in the championship, which begins Thursday with No. 8 UC Riverside taking on No. 9 Cal State Fullerton. Long Beach State is the top seed, followed by UCI, Cal Poly, Cal State Northridge, Pacific and UC Santa Barbara. UC Irvine is currently ranked No. 56 nationally. | |
