Noack Named To NWCA All-Academic Team

The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced Thursday that UC Davis senior 165-pound wrestler Dustin Noack has earned a spot on its 2008-09 Division I All-Academic Team. Noack adds the NWCA honors to four straight Pac-10 Conference All-Academic accolades.

In order to be eligible for the all-academic teams, student-athletes must own at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA, have qualified for the NCAA Championships or won 60 percent of their total matches and be a major contributor to their team. Student-athletes also qualify with a 3.0 GPA and All-America status. Noack was one of 73 wrestlers from 45 institutions to earn the distinction.

Aggies Complete Run At NCAA Championships

Sophomore Brandon Low and senior Marcos Orozco were both eliminated in the wrestleback brackets to complete their run for UC Davis at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships Friday afternoon at the Scottrade Center.

UC Davis scored a total of 2.5 points at the tournament to finish in a tie for 55th overall. Ohio State took over the team lead after the third session with 61.5 points.

Aggie Wrestling Signs Snell To Spring NLI

UC Davis head wrestling coach Lennie Zalesky announced Tuesday that Poway High School's Conrad Snell has signed a National Letter of Intent during the spring signing period and is expected to enroll at UC Davis in the fall of 2009.

"(Conrad) spent two years on an extremely competitive varsity wrestling team at Poway and showed tremendous improvement over the last year," said Zalesky. "He started as a soccer player who wrestled but has taken this huge step over the past year into a true wrestler. His continued improvement in the sport will be to the benefit of our program. I can see him helping out as soon as next year at 141 or 149 (pounds)."
